Symptoms of drug-induced depression can vary depending on the drug, the dose, and the patient's individual sensitivity. They may include persistent depressed mood, loss of interest in usual activities, sleep disturbances, increased fatigue, agitation or lethargy, changes in appetite, suicidal thoughts, and more.
It is important to note that drug-induced depression can occur in people without a history of depressive disorders and may be reversible after stopping the offending medication or after a dose adjustment. However, in some cases, depression may persist even after stopping the medication, requiring additional treatment.
